Building Land & Barn For Sale - The Setting

There are neighbours to one side, who are carefully restoring an old barn, and a large old farmhouse across the road, to the North. There is no one blocking your view of the pastures and the mountains beyond – nor will there be, as the land is designated as farmland; you have privacy without isolation.

A Plot with a Soul

Many French building plots lack any sense of place, and are simply soulless fields on the edge of a village that have been redesignated as suitable for a dwelling. In contrast, a tiny stone cottage once stood on this plot, demolished when the road was widened (from a track to a lane) and the stones could be re-used to face a new house.

Views

Perhaps the most outstanding feature of the plot is the panoramic view of the Pyrenees: peaceful and uplifting and constantly changing with the seasons.

The Community

Most of the houses in the commune are first rather than second homes, but there are also a number of holiday houses owned by a smattering of British, Dutch or Belgian families – and by Toulousains seeking tranquillity away from Airbus. Many of the older villagers in the area speak with a strong Gascon accent, and some even in the local patois, although that has almost died out.

This is a rural, agricultural community, practically untouched by its proximity to Toulouse with its cutting-edge aeronautical industry. There is a strong sense of belonging, and the foreigners who have built or bought there have been welcomed for their part in rejuvenating the area. There are enough incomers for the locals to have overcome any knee-jerk suspicions, but not so many as to upset the balance of life here.

Potential

Here's your chance to build something really special to take advantage of the spectacular setting, and perhaps to enjoy a more natural, eco-friendly lifestyle in the coming years.
