Building Land and Barns for sale - Location

The Midi-Pyrenees stretches down from the River Dordogne in the North to the Spanish border, and boasts Toulouse – 'la ville rose' – as its capital.

Haute Garonne is part of Gascony, famous for its cooking, especially (vegetarians look away now) magret de canard and paté de fois gras, and its fierce sense of independence (guess where D'Artagnan was from!).

The weather in the region is mild in the winter and warm and sunny in the summer; a swimming pool would not be a necessity but would get a lot of use.

Although rainfall is low, the countryside is lush and green, thanks to snowmelt from the Pyrenees, and there is no water shortage or danger of fire, unlike in Provence in the East.

Local Services

The hamlet is in Dept. 31, Haute Garonne (close to the border of the Haute Pyrenees) less than 10 minutes from a shop (with fresh bread) and post office in one direction, and the same distance from an Artisan Boulanger, making wonderful fresh bread and pastries on the premises, and a shop with a bar (happy to serve brandy at 9.00 am), in the other direction. Montréjeau and Lannemezan, with their supermarkets, DIY stores, butchers, bakers and candlestick makers, are less than 20 minutes away, and St. Gaudens – which is almost a city – is 25 minutes away. In 15 minutes you can be on the motorway speeding towards Toulouse (1hr 20m) or Pau (1hr) to fetch your visitors from the airport.

A Bit Further Afield

As beautiful as the area is, you may be tempted by the idea of waking on a winter's morning and deciding to go skiing. There are several ski resorts less than an hour away by car (or you can take the special ski train from the local station). The rest of the year, the mountains offer walkers the chance to wander through some of the most dramatic scenery in France. Or perhaps you prefer a day at the seaside? Biarritz is less than two hours away!
